I-Joists & Engineered Wood
Timberlink…James Jones JJI-Joist distributor for Midlands & Wales
What are I-Joists?
I-Joists known as I-Beams, are a composite engineered timber joist combining 45mm deep high-grade finger jointed softwood flanges with a 9mm thick oriented strand board web. Four flange widths are available at 47, 63, 72 and 97mm wide, section heights 220,245,300,400mm, lengths - 10,12,13.2m. Using advance technology these components are combined to produce an innovative alternative to conventional construction timber with many advantages.
They are widely used in the UK, particularly as floor joists also as roof and walls. Their high strength-to-weight ratio, low weight, ease of installation and economy in use of materials make them popular, especially for long spans and multi-story structures.
I-joists have better dimensional stability than solid wood, so they shrink or swell less when ambient conditions change. I-joists are the main structural component in the off-site manufacture of some panelized systems.
The I-Joists System
The I-Joist system relies on a unique combination of engineered products designed to compliment each other and deliver outstanding performance.
I-Joists
The workhorse of the system, a versatile light weight structural member ideal for floor joists, rafters, purlins and wall studs.
Glulam
For the most demanding applications, high strength and stiffness combined with dimensional stability make this the ideal choice for heavily loaded members in floors, roofs and walls.
Metalwork
A comprehensive range of connectors designed specifically for the I-joist system are also available.
Chipboard flooring
Timberlink stocks Eggerboard PCX moisture resistant flooring in 2.4m x 600mm sheets and Egger D3 adhesive
