Bespoke Joinery

In our purpose built Joiner's shop we specialise in making gates to any design or size. We also offer a bespoke service largely for other external joinery items such as planters, pergolas, trellis, picnic tables etc. to individual design. For example, we have recently fitted out a large Manchester shopping centre with a series of architect designed inter-linked planters all faced with tongue & groove. Also in Manchester we have made hundreds of metres of fence panels with gates to architect's design.

Most of our standard products are made from certified timber and we can normally incorporate certified timber in special orders.

Our Cutting Service

Our Joiner's shop is laid out with dedicated lines for cross cutting timber. Almost every day we crosscut sawn timber, ply and plane timber to a customer's special order.

In 2006 Timberlink was the contracted by Jewsons to cross cut thousands of sawn timber lengths to be treated and shipped in some 250 containers. This was our biggest cutting contract to date and required our staff to work around the clock to meet strict deadlines.

At Timberlink no job is too big or small so please just ask for a quote if you have something specific in mind.

Treatment

Timberlink's treatment centre is one of the largest inland treatment facilities in the UK. Timberlink not only treats its own timber, but also offers a custom timber treatment service to its customers, which comprise multi national European, as well as major UK national and local timber companies. The Timberlink site is naturally suitable for rapid external air drying of timber, due to the flat topography of the site and its surrounding area and the strong prevailing westerly winds. We have two plants which both measure 18.4m x 1.8m diameter and can treat timber both green or brown.

Our site offers large areas to dry the timber down to the right moisture content before treatment and for short or long term storage afterwards. With seven forklifts on site Timberlink is renowned for its rapid turnaround of wagons.

Why treat?

The risks

Wood needs protection whether fence & gate posts or building timbers, panels, pergolas, playground apparatus -. Particularly when used outdoors in constant contact with earth or water, our indigenous, relatively low durability wood types are at risk from fungi, insects and the elements. Vacuum pressure impregnation can provide lasting protection for these types of timbers..

Care of treated wood

The cross cut ends of impregnated timbers should be treated with Wolmanit® Cut & treat.

More information

You can find extensive information on wood destroying fungi and insects in Wolmans‘ Infocenter Wood.

Timberlink & Dr. Wolman

Wolmanit CX8-WB Preservative

Timberlink uses the Wolmanit® CX8-WB preservative. Wolmans, established in 1911 is part of the massive German BASF chemical group and supplies about 70% of the timber chemicals used in Europe and was the first company to use non chrome and arsenic free chemicals based on copper boron some 15 years ago.

Our large storage site makes us an ideal depot for storing and treating large volumes of timber. In 2006 Timberlink was the main treatment centre, used by Jewsons to treat and ship some 250 containers of timber for the British Red Cross to Banda Aceh after the SE Asia Tsunami.

Dr. Wolman Products

Modern wood treatment places high demands on research and technology. This is because preservatives today need to be both effective and environmentally friendly. The Wolman range can justifiably claim to fulfil both these requirements. The innovative Wolmanit® CX8-WB preservative provides the basis for lasting wood protection..

The Treatment Process

The structure of wood is similar to that of a sponge, with cell cavities and cell walls, which represent the actual wood. The aim of wood preservation is to coat these walls with preservative to protect them from decay caused by wood-destroying fungi and insects. The preservative penetrates deep into the wood with the aid of pressure and a vacuum. First the vacuum removes the air from the cavities to create space for the preservative solution, which is then forced deep into the wood under high pressure.

Click the play button opposite to see how our timber is pressure treated. For 'non-flash' users, please use our alternative 'Illustrated Process'.

More information about our chemical can be found at the Dr. Wolman website and on our Timberlink & Dr. Wolman page.

The pressure treatment vessel is loaded with timber
A strong initial vacuum is created, pulling the air from the timber and out of the vessel.
While maintaining the vacuum, the vessel is filled with Wolmanit® CX8-WB preservative solution.
Under high pressure the preservative solution is forced deep into the timber.
The pressure inside the vessel is reduced to normal and the excess solution within the vessel is drained off.
A final vacuum is created, allowing any excess solution to be drawn from the timber.
The timber treated with Wolmanit® CX8-WB is now removed and placed in storage to allow fixation
